The Terriers showed what fantastic depth and spirit is in the squad on Saturday. Despite missing 9 players from the squad they turned in a fantastic team performance to beat Sharlston. The Terriers got off to a flying start with the forwards laying the platform before Tom Mitchell provided a lovely pass for Ben Walsh to stroll over out wide for a try which he was unable to convert. The visitors struck back on 14 minutes after several penalties – the stand off stepped through from close range for a converted effort to lead for the first and last time in the game at 6-4. The Terriers responded with a superb 15 minute spell. Scott Lindsay, who is having a new lease of life this season, caused havoc throughout with his barnstorming runs and aggressive defence and it was him who provided a lovely long ball to skipper Dale Brown who put Alex Woodcock into a gap and he did the rest from 10 yards for his 3rd try of the season, Walsh converting for 10-6. Graham Charlesworth was next on the scoresheet after his own towering bomb was dropped close to the line by the visiting fullback and he was there to pick up and score, Walsh again converting. 5 minutes later impressive hooker Johnny Mason poached one from acting half back to make it 20-6. To their credit the visitors battled throughout and got some reward when their loose forward ran a good line and just managed to get the ball down despite the efforts of Lindsay and co who tried to hold him up. 20-12 half time. The first try after the break was always going to be crucial and it went to the home side, Lindsay getting his just rewards and powering over for a well deserved try early in the half, Walsh converting. Birthday boy Vaughn Walsh then got the first of his brace, handing off his opposite number before racing 30 metres to score. Charlesworth got his second on 57, regathering another dropped bomb on halfway before outpacing the defence to score out wide. The next 15 minutes were scrappy but the Terriers held firm and finished the job on 73 minutes when Walsh caught a high kick out wide in acres of space before running in from 35 metres to complete the scoring. A very pleasing display, especially keeping the visitors’ scoreless in the second half. Gary Lee slotted in well at scrum half in the absence of skipper Liam Walsh, who was banned. Skipper Dale Brown led the side well and their were big contributions off the bench from Jamie Love and Dave Featherstone, but Scott Lindsay deservedly took the man of the match award with a superb display.
